Background

Every past student of St. Thomas’ Church School, Howrah has expressed a desire to re-connect with his/ her alma mater but never before has this desire been so strong and unified. Proactive ex-students from different batches and across different cities came together and their joint efforts to unify all ex-students took initial shape.

They started off a campaign to organise a small get together for ex-students in a few prominent cities and it has received an overwhelming response. In a matter of a week’s time we got volunteers from Howrah, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad who offered to co-ordinate the get together in their respective cities.

Every member reinstated the initial objective of a common platform for all ex-students to re-connect with the school and with each other.

Presented below are some highlights from the event that took place on 25th April 2010 across Howrah (Kolkata), Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The event was attended by 220 ex-students and 10 teachers (including past teachers).

Mr. Sarkar addressed the gathering and took everyone down memory lane with a presentation of old school photographs. He mentioned how STCS has been and still is a prominent landmark in Howrah and how Howrah and STCS are almost synonymous.

Mrs. Rakhit spoke of her long association with STCS and shared her memories with the gathering. She encouraged this initiative and assured her cooperation with all possible means. She praised the efforts of the organizers and asked everyone to see to it that it shaped up into a stable platform and not forgotten after the event.

Mr. Samuel appreciated the efforts put in by everyone and was thrilled with the fact that the event was organized on the same day and at the same time across 6 different locations in India.

Mr. John Shah applauded the idea and gave an insight into the future agenda of the forum. He also explained how important an alumni forum is in every student’s life.

(All other venues were connected during all speeches over tele-conference)

A brief presentation was made on the proposed objectives and potential benefits the forum would have for everyone.

The forum was then left open for discussions and idea sharing. Many ex-students and teachers discussed ways in which the proposed forum can be made useful for everyone. It also gave everyone an opportunity to share their journey towards a successful life.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all guests. Special thanks were given to our Principal (Mr. V.A.K. Lall) and Vice-Principal (Mrs J.
