Student Speak

The year of passing may be wrong (I'm an absent minded guy now) but I really need to know about my old buddies like Ujjwal Satra our captain, Manikuntala Sengupta (we the boys used to love her a lot), Deepa, Dibyendu and many others whom I still remember.I wonder they might have forgotten me. I cannot forget our principal Mr.G.W.Jordan, Mr.Mukherjee our very strict chemistry teacher, Mr. Dilip Das our biology teacher, our drawing teacher Mrs.Manna.

It's wonderful indeed to know that there was an alumni meet organised a months ago, which I missed. I look forward If there any get together of this kind in near future takes place, please inform me,I'll love to be there.Never mind if no one remembers me from my school, it will be my satisfaction only, that I am still in touch with my school.

A very special thanks to Amit and Hansraj (from Kolkata) for extending their stay in Mumbai to attend the event. Also Rajesh who drove all the way from Surat and stopped over for the meet.

This meeting was for a purpose and everyone ensured we did so. The STCS Mumbai Alumni Chapter was unanimously renamed STCS Mumbai Family. Over a few cuppa coffee we discussed the Alumni roadmap and shared some light moments cherishing our school days.

Important things discussed during the meeting:

Each One Reach One Campaign: You must have already noticed that we have already started promoting the campaign. The aim of the campaign is to get all Thomasites registered on a global alumni database. If you have already registered than you have to get all your batchmates, seniors and juniors registered too! Go ahead and promote the Alumni Register. For details visit http://bit.ly/dixq3x

Serve your Alma Mater: If you are a professional and are willing to help the school in general and the existing students in particular then come forward or push your friend forward to conduct a workshop in school. For details get in touch with us on stcsalumni@gmail.com

Scholarships: We discussed the idea of providing scholarships for deserving students and the ones who are unable to pay their fees. The candidates would be decided by the school administration. We seek every members feedback on this.

Mumbai Family Charity Event: We discussed the idea of taking up a social programme on the last Sunday, June 27th 2010. If you know of any NGO in Mumbai working for underpriviledged children then let us know. We will visit and support these kids in cash or kind based on one's decision. We will share details soon. We would also invite people from other cities to take up similar activity in their respective city.

Lighter Moments: It is difficult to explain in words the fun and excitement we had discussing the silly pranks we played in school, talking about our classmates and remembering our teachers. Not to forget some special people who were remembered that day.

STCS Each One Reach One

I am sure you wish to see all past students of STCS under one umbrella. STCS Each 1 Reach 1 is the biggest attempt ever to bring all STCS alumni registered on a central database.
Spread this link http://bit.ly/d3ZQ5A across all networks and platforms and help us to create a global database of past STCS students.

Background

Every past student of St. Thomas’ Church School, Howrah has expressed a desire to re-connect with his/ her alma mater but never before has this desire been so strong and unified. Proactive ex-students from different batches and across different cities came together and their joint efforts to unify all ex-students took initial shape.

They started off a campaign to organise a small get together for ex-students in a few prominent cities and it has received an overwhelming response. In a matter of a week’s time we got volunteers from Howrah, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad who offered to co-ordinate the get together in their respective cities.

Every member reinstated the initial objective of a common platform for all ex-students to re-connect with the school and with each other.

Presented below are some highlights from the event that took place on 25th April 2010 across Howrah (Kolkata), Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The event was attended by 220 ex-students and 10 teachers (including past teachers).

The event started off with the school prayer followed by our school anthem with Mrs. Rakhit and Mr. Samuel taking the lead.

Mr. Sarkar addressed the gathering and took everyone down memory lane with a presentation of old school photographs. He mentioned how STCS has been and still is a prominent landmark in Howrah and how Howrah and STCS are almost synonymous.

Mrs. Rakhit spoke of her long association with STCS and shared her memories with the gathering. She encouraged this initiative and assured her cooperation with all possible means. She praised the efforts of the organizers and asked everyone to see to it that it shaped up into a stable platform and not forgotten after the event.

Mr. Samuel appreciated the efforts put in by everyone and was thrilled with the fact that the event was organized on the same day and at the same time across 6 different locations in India.

Mr. John Shah applauded the idea and gave an insight into the future agenda of the forum. He also explained how important an alumni forum is in every student’s life.

(All other venues were connected during all speeches over tele-conference)

A brief presentation was made on the proposed objectives and potential benefits the forum would have for everyone.

The forum was then left open for discussions and idea sharing. Many ex-students and teachers discussed ways in which the proposed forum can be made useful for everyone. It also gave everyone an opportunity to share their journey towards a successful life.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all guests. Special thanks were given to our Principal (Mr. V.A.K. Lall) and Vice-Principal (Mrs J. Mayadas), who were not able to attend the meet, but whose blessing and cooperation was with the past students of STCS, Howrah and who are the guiding force for the Thomasites of today.

I am really looking forward to this STCS alumni meet because it gives me an opportunity to reconnect with my old mates. Also, i think a strong alumni body can go a long way to give the school its due name. We as Thomasites should actively participate in this meet

Student Speak

What you need to know about the past is that no matter what has happened, it has all worked together to bring you to this very moment. And this is the moment you can choose to make everything new. Right now. Here is the wonderful moments we all have been waiting for quite a long time.

I have given my 15 years to STCS, but what I have got in return cannot be expressed in words - My education, wonderful friends, unforgettable memories encrypted down the memory lane etc etc..... You all must be glad to know that Thomasians are working in million dollars company across India, this is what STCS has produced since the year of its establishment. It has been almost 8 years we left the school, but when we look back and see, all the memories comes right in front of us and cannot escape the tiny drops making our eyes wet.

Cheers!!!!!

Student Speak

STCS has always been known for its cosmopolitan and all India character. The students, coming as they do from all over India, with diverse backgrounds of language, culture and religion live in complete harmony and understanding, and learn to look beyond local and group affinities, toward loyalties to the country and to, the society at large.

The Ignatian vision of education goes far beyond the achievement of academic excellence. It includes a radical change of heart in the person of the educated and of the educator, turning them from selfish concerns to unreserved generosity to God and to their fellow men; it is characterized by an inner liberation of the spirit, making him truly free and mature, capable of assuming what ever responsibility is imposed on him.

I have always looked forward to meet some one from STCS and missed a connection with Alma matter, specially when I saw a reunion function of any other institute, I sorely felt a need for a link with STCS.

As a proud STCS alumni I request you to come together for the event and am confident that we shall be meeting again and again to revive the fellowship bond which can never be taken away from us.

love n regards

To describe in words what STCS means to me is just impossible. The support and help which I got during the time when I needed it the most is something which I will cherish forever.
To see the pictures of my school on this site really made me feel very nostalgic.
I am glad and delighted that we will meet in this way.
